Year Level: 13
School: Kavanagh College Dunedin, New Zealand
Teacher: Gillian Smillie
EXPLANATION OF THIS ACTIVITY: This is the design brief I am doing with my Year 13 class. For this project the school principal is the client. We are using Photoshop to play around with images. The students are discouraged from using pre-set Powerpoint backgrounds and instead must incorporate design elements e.g repetition, unity, colour, balance etc..
SITUATION: Boards of Trustees and school principals now promote their schools to encourage enrolment and to raise their school's profile. This can be done through the school's website, but with the increase in events like seminars and promotional evenings, both nationally and internationally, different marketing material is often required.
TO STUDENTS: In this assignment you are required to design material to promote the school to local, national and international clientele. This will require you to photograph different aspects of school life as part of this promotion. You must consider the design elements and principles throughout your assignment. It is your task to negotiate with your client to determine what is required and this negotiation should be on going throughout the design process.
