| BACK MAIN ASPECTS OF CREATIVE/DESIGN BRIEF B a c k g r o u n d Every now and then Sainsbury’s produces limited edition reusable shopping bags. Last year a range of environmentally friendly carrier bags were created to encourage shoppers to think about the contribution they can make to the environment by reducing the number of carrier bags they use, and to raise awareness and debate about the role the arts play in people’s lives. The three new reusable shopping bags featured specially commissioned work by artists Michael Craig-Martin, Anya Gallaccio and Paul Morrison. see left R e q u i r e m e n t This brief is to create artwork to appear on a new range of bags, this time based on one of three key themes that are central to Sainsbury’s business. c Each bag design will celebrate one of the themes. So it’s up to you to choose a theme from the following: Be the best for food and health Our goal is to provide customers with healthy, safe, fresh and tasty products. We want to make healthy eating easier, enjoyable and more affordable for everyone. more Show respect for our environment We’re working to reduce our impact on the environment in everything we do. more Source with integrity We work with our suppliers to source excellent food. Our suppliers are our partners – we rely on them and respect their expertise. more c The bag dimensions are 390mm high and 450mm wide. So your artwork should fit within such a canvas c There are no colour limitations at all c Sainsbury’s branding will be applied to the side gussets, so your design will dominate both main faces of the bag |

| In Australia, rather than supermarkets having their own shopping bags, they all sell these 'Environment Fund' bags for $1 each that is a way of saving Australia's wildlife. Coles and Safeway/Woolworths supermarkets have now sold over 10 million reusable bags. Some of the reasons why people are making the switch to reusable bags are: c Reusable bags are comfortable to carry and they’re kinder to your fingers than plastic bags c They hold 2-3 times more items than a plastic check-out bag – so you have less bags to carry c They last for years and won’t split like a thin plastic bag c They’re a stylish and practical bag for shopping or trips to the beach, the CBD, picnics and the park |
