GRAPHIC DESIGNERS
COLLABORATE WITH ...

Firstly, WHAT IS A GRAPHIC
DESIGNER
?
FROM WIKIPEDIA
A number of occupations are commonly
classified under the broad term of graphic
designer. Graphic design career paths
cover all ends of the creative spectrum.
Many of these job descriptions overlap
heavily.

A MARKETING SPECIALIST'S VIEW
Let’s assume you have all the
answers. You know what you need
designed. You know how you want it
designed and you know who your target
customer is. You have all the images and
verbiage written and all you need is for
someone to lay it out so it can be
printed. If you are at this stage then all
you need is a designer. Conversely, if
you know what you want to sell but need
advice on ways to sell it, then you will
need to consider a marketing specialist.

"For decades I have argued that
architectural drawing can be divided into
three types, which I call the â
€œreferential sketch,â€ the â
€œpreparatory studyâ€ and the â
€œdefinitive drawingâ€.

FINDING INFO
One of the main things I am always
doing is to select the best information I
can find for you and your students - and I
have the time to do it. For any particular
topic, that often means sifting through
many, many websites to find the best -
and then to find the best 1-2 pages
within each website. There are some
websites that provide a lot of links to
other websites that have already been
selected because they are good and have
already been categorised. The following
website,
'ALLTOP', is an excellent example that I
use, and you may like to use it as
well.

HOW DO YOU START THE
CREATIVE JUICES?
David LaFerriere starts his creative juices
before work by doing drawings on the
lunch bags of his children. David started
making these decorative lunch bags
back in May 2008. It all came about one
morning in an attempt to do something
special for his boys.

PROFILE PORTRAITS
Mike Mitchell’s portraits are definitely a
departure from the bulk of what he
has been doing. The itch to do something
a little more ambitious and work-
intensive was starting to build.

"For this portrait series, I wanted to keep
the personalities there, at least how they
exist in my own mind. Then apply that to
a traditional portrait, something that
most of these characters wouldn’t be
doing. There’s an ironic sense about
them that I like, but I also just really love
these dudes for who they are, and I
didn't want to take too much of that
away. When I watch a movie and really
connect with a character, I often feel a
strong urge to draw/paint that person."

the things they think will take a day
actually take a week and without starting
somewhere there can be no end.
